Brindlewood Bay is a tabletop roleplaying game that combines Murder, She Wrote with H.P. Lovecraft. In it, you play a group of elderly women, members of the local Murder Mavens Mystery Book Club, who help the authorities solve murder cases in a picturesque New England Town. Over the course of their investigations, they become aware of a dark occult conspiracy that connects the cases, and will eventually have to face that conspiracy in order to save their community. The game is low-prep and easy to play no matter your experience with tabletop roleplaying games.
Latest Updates from Our Project:
Nephews in Peril (Kickstarter Edition) PDF

Hello! Below are some updates on Brindlewood Bay, but first...
Join our Discord server
The Gauntlet Discord server is the absolute best way to stay in touch with us. That's where we discuss all of our games, as well as organize game sessions, show previews of things we're working on, and more. Come hang out with us!
Nephews in Peril PDF
Last night we sent you the PDF for Nephews in Peril! Nephews in Peril ended up being much bigger than we originally anticipated (30% bigger, in fact), and the final product is dynamite. It's a massive expansion for the world of Brindlewood Bay, with 20 new mysteries, new rules and advice, and a section on the Village, the touristy heart of Brindlewood Bay. We think you're going to love it. A few things to note about this release:
We're making some small changes to a few of the art pieces before it goes to print, which means the PDF will also change. We will always put the most up-to-date version in your DriveThruRPG library. The current version has version 1.1 in the file name.
The mystery handout sheets are not included in yesterday's release. We will add them to your DriveThruRPG Library when they are finished (and let you know here).
If you get a chance to look through Nephews in Peril and spot a typo or mistake, please let us know on the typo report. Please do not send us a message about it.
If you can't find your email from DriveThruRPG about the Nephews in Peril PDF, please look one more time (and check your spam folder). If you still can't find it, send Jason Cordova a message on Discord or send us a Kickstarter message using the Kickstarter messaging system. Please include your DriveThruRPG email address when you contact us.
Physical Books
Now that Nephews in finished, we're heading to the printer so they can get started on Brindlewood Bay and Nephews in Peril. We're still working on the cookbook, but will get that in the printer's queue as soon as it's ready—there's a chance it might ship separate from the two main books, but we don't know yet. The timing of what happens next depends a lot on where we are in the printer's queue. There will be a little bit of back and forth between us and the printer as we make small adjustments to the PDF in order to get the offset printing to the highest quality. That process is very tedious and, in our experience, involves dozens of emails until the files are exactly right. Once that's done, they will send us laser printer pages Fedex Overnight to approve. Once we approve the laser printer pages, they will set up the offset printing rolls. Once the offset printing rolls are complete, the printers will print a few sample copies of the books for us to review. They send them Fedex Overnight so we can approve them quickly. Once we approve the samples, they print the books. This is just guesswork, but based on our past projects, at this point in the process, we're about two months from having books in the warehouse, which means we would expect shipping them to customers in mid to late March. The printer will give us an exact schedule once the offset is complete, meaning right before they print a sample copy of the books for us. Once we know the exact schedule, we'll let you know.
BackerKit and Preorders
Now that Nephews in Peril is complete, we're going to get BackerKit and Preorders launched. Folks who preorder will now get all the PDFs from BackerKit as soon as they preorder, instead of having to wait for multiple messages from us. Once we launch BackerKit, which we anticipate will be on January 27th, 5% of KS backers will get notified of their surveys. This is called the smoke test. We'll watch the smoke test for a day or two to make sure there are no problems with the surveys, and then hit launch more widely, probably around the 29th.
Future updates
Going forward, we will only send updates when we hit one of the following project milestones:
Backerkit launched
Laser printer sample pages in hand
Sample books in hand
Cookbook sample in hand
Printer's shipping schedule
Books in warehouse
Release of digital-only stretch goal
As always, thanks so much for your support! We hope you love Nephews in Peril as much as we do!

A quick clarification re: Brindlewood Bay PDFs on DriveThruRPG
almost 4 years ago
– Thu, Nov 17, 2022 at 01:42:12 AM
A real quick update just to clarify something from our last update: the version of Brindlewood Bay backers got from DriveThruRPG in September is the most up-to-date version of the game. The note in last night's update was for folks who may have missed it back then. If you're not sure if you have the most up-to-date files, just check your DTRPG library—it will always have the most up-to-date version.
Thanks!

November 2022 Update
– Tue, Nov 15, 2022 at 03:43:43 AM
Hello! We’ve been enjoying all the stories we’ve been hearing about people playing and loving the new edition of Brindlewood Bay! We worked really hard on that book, and we’re delighted people are having fun with it.
In this post we have some updates on various aspects of the project, plus other news and info, so let’s get started!
The Gauntlet Discord Server
Before we dive into updates, we want to invite you to join The Gauntlet Discord server. Discord is the absolute best way to keep in touch with the folks working on Brindlewood Bay (Jason Cordova, the game’s creator, is very active there) as well as connect with other fans of the game. It’s also a great place to learn about the enormous amount of community content coming out for Brindlewood Bay, The Between, and our other games, as well as to get sneak peeks of the new games we’re working on, such as The Silt Verses RPG, Public Access, and Arkham Herald. You might even be able to slip into an online game! Join The Gauntlet Discord right here.
Brindlewood Bay DriveThruRPG Codes
We have responded to everyone who sent us a message about not being able to find their DTRPG code for the new edition of Brindlewood Bay. If you still can’t find your code (or if you’re hearing about this for the first time) send us a Kickstarter message or DM Jason on Discord. Do not post a comment on this post. Please include your DTRPG email address when you message us.
Nephews in Peril
We’re taking some extra time on the editing and content of Nephews in Peril. The updated mystery format we introduced in the new Brindlewood Bay was very well-received, and so we want to give the mysteries in Nephews, many of which existed long before this KS, the same treatment. The updated mysteries are funnier, scarier, and altogether more rich with detail (for a great example of what we’re talking about here, compare both versions of All Hallow’s Scream).
We’re also changing the format for Sweeps Week mysteries. It’s been a couple years since we introduced the concept of the Sweeps Week mystery, and in that time we’ve learned a lot about what makes these scenarios tick. In particular, we’re taking a lot of cues from how the scenarios work in our other game, The Between, and applying that to Sweeps Week mysteries.
All of this is to say the Nephews PDF is going to be a bit longer, but we’re nearly finished, and the end product is going to be much, much better for that extra time. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the older versions of the mysteries we included in the May backer-only update.
BackerKit Surveys
…are coming soon. Gauntlet Publishing is basically a one-man operation now, and that one man has been focused on Nephews in Peril and the Community Cookbook. BackerKit keeps slipping off the plate, but hopefully we’ll have the surveys out in a week or two. Regardless of when they get sent out, you’ll have plenty of time to answer your survey and pay for shipping (or preorder, in case you didn't get a chance to back the KS).
The Brindlewood Bay Community Cookbook
We’re making good progress on the cookbook. Recipes have been selected and edited, and the game portion is written. The layout of the cookbook will probably be the last thing we do before the entire project goes to print.
Roll20 Implementation
We have sent the Brindlewood Bay files to Roll20 so they can start working on the Roll20 tools for the game. We'll send them Nephews when we have those ready. We’ll let you know when we have more to report on Roll20.
Bed, Breakfast, & Beyond
Chris and Alicia are working hard on BB&B, and are testing out the 2-player rules. We’ll let you know when we have more to report there.
New Podcast: The Darkened Threshold
The podcast that was unlocked during the campaign is underway! Co-hosts Jason Cordova and Alex Rybitski have released a sneak preview of the first episode, which you can listen to in any of the Gauntlet feeds. The podcast will have its own feed and regular twice-monthly releases starting in late December!
Deep Reaver Con
We haven’t started working on Deep Reaver Con in earnest because the priority has been the main rules and Nephews, but Jason will be sitting down with Ben and Gus soon to go over the contours of the 3 mysteries. We reckon it will be ready for digital release sometime in February/March timeframe.
The Miniseries Campaign
Jonah Knight, the principal author on the Miniseries Campaign, is nearly finished with the text. Jason is sitting down with him soon to go over everything in detail. We anticipate it will be ready for edits in January/February timeframe, and then ready for digital release in April/May. It's actually a pretty massive addition to the game and we think you're going to love it.
Prototype: Suspect Cards & Needlepoint Dice
One of our last stretch goals was for Cecilia to do Suspect portraits for all 160+ Suspects in the game. She's hard at work on those, and in the meantime, we’ve been giving a lot of thought to what we can do with those illustrations. We decided to commission a prototype of a new product, the Brindlewood Bay Suspect Cards & Needlepoint Dice. The idea here is you would have cards of all the Suspects in the mystery to make it easier (and more fun) for your table to keep track of who’s who. There are also some lovely custom dice to make the experience more special. We have not yet made a final determination on whether to actually produce these for sale, but we thought you’d enjoy some pictures nonetheless.
A couple of notes about the pictures: we don’t yet have the Suspect illustrations from Cecilia, so some of the art is placeholder art. Additionally, the color for the prototype is RGB, meaning it’s a little cooler in hue than the final product would be (which would be CMYK).

The Gauntlet Patreon
The Gauntlet Patreon is the best $6 you can spend in all of tabletop roleplaying games. Our patrons get access to tons of exclusive and early access games and scenarios, many of which go on to be bigger projects (like Brindlewood Bay). There’s a bunch of stuff to download in the feed right now, and next week we have a brand-new, Patreon-exclusive Brindlewood Bay mystery coming out. It's called Murder Most Fowl, and you can see the artwork we commissioned for it below! The Gauntlet Patreon feed can be found here.

As always, thanks so much for your support! We’re going to end the update with some new artwork from Cecilia!

A quick follow-up on Brindlewood Bay
– Sat, Sep 17, 2022 at 06:15:56 AM
Apologies for sending out a second update on top of the one from last night, but we have a couple of important things to make you aware of.
Updated Brindlewood Bay File
One small section got left out of the book. We have added it in and updated the file on DriveThruRPG, so please go download that one (it's listed as V2).
DTRPG Emails
We're getting lots of inquiries about people not being able to find their download email. It will be too time consuming to manually send out a code one by one, so we're going to wait a day or two to see who still needs their code and then send them all out at once. In the meantime, please double check the email you use for Kickstarter to confirm you don't have a message from DriveThruRPG.
Thanks!
September 2022 Update
– Sat, Sep 17, 2022 at 06:15:47 AM
Hello!
We have an exciting update for you today...
Brindlewood Bay PDF!
The BrindlewoodBay PDF has been sent to all backers via DriveThruRPG! If you can't find the DriveThruRPG email with your download please check your spam folder or search "DriveThruRPG." If you still can't find it, send us a message on Kickstarter (do not post a comment). Be sure to include your DriveThruRPG email in your message.
If you notice any typos or things that need correcting, please let us know on the typo report.
We hope you enjoy this book! Jason put a lot of work into it to make it as special as possible. There is so much new stuff, including totally revamped mysteries and more support for the Dark Conspiracy, so be sure to give it a look!
Some other updates...
Nephews in Peril
Nephews in Peril is up next. It's currently in editing and layout, and the PDF should be released some time next month.
The Cookbook
The cookbook is currently in the editing stage and should be heading to layout some time in October or early November.
BackerKit
We're delaying the launch of BackerKit until October. The reason is because we are going to charge VAT through BackerKit for those international backers whose countries require it. That will make those backers' lives easier (and will let them get their rewards faster), but it's going to take a bit of extra time for us to get that set up.
Structural Changes at Gauntlet Publishing
Gauntlet Publishing has recently (and quite unexpectedly) gone from a two-man operation to a one-man operation. We don't think it will slow things down too much since a lot of the fulfillment logistics are automated, but nevertheless, the project was planned with two people in mind. If there are some fulfillment delays for the physical books, it shouldn't be more than a month or so.
As always, thanks so much for your support! Here are a few new illustrations from Cecilia:
